Question by anmlprht: Seeds of Deception? We should, at least, question it and ask for answers that are acceptable.?
“Outrageous! That’s what you’ll say over and over again when you read how the biotechnology companies have manipulated the government, our food, and the media, and put an entire generation at risk.
– Ben Cohen, Co-Founder, Ben & Jerry’s

“Clear, profound, and unerringly accurate, Seeds of Deception tells you what you need to know about genetically engineered food — and what Monsanto won’t tell you. If you care about the safety of our food supply, if you care what corporations are doing to your food and health, this is the book to get.”
– John Robbins, author, The Food Revolution, and Diet For A New America

“This pivotal exposé leaves no doubt that politics and corporate influence, not sound science, allowed these potentially dangerous GM foods onto supermarket shelves.”
– Joe Mendelson, Legal Director, Center for Food Safety

“I have seen first hand how Monsanto and the FDA have resorted to scientific deceit of the highest order to market genetically engineered milk. With captivating style and a flair for describing science in clear, accurate language, Seeds of Deception unveils the distortions, omissions, and lies for all to see.”
– Samuel S. Epstein, M.D., professor emeritus environmental and occupational medicine
University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health
Chairman, Cancer Prevention Coalition
Seeds of deception. Grains of delusion.
“Ways in which industry researchers apparently doctored their studies to avoid finding problems with GM foods. ie, Aventis heated StarLink corn four times longer than standard before testing for intact protein; Monsanto fed mature animals diets with only one tenth of their protein derived from GM soy; researchers injected cows with one forty-seventh the amount of rbGH before testing the level of hormone in the milk and pasteurized milk 120 times longer than normal to see if the hormone was destroyed; and Monsanto used stronger acid and more than 1,250 times the amount of a digestive enzyme recommended by international standards to prove how quickly their protein degraded.
Cows that got sick were dropped from Monsanto’s rbGH studies, while cows that got pregnant before treatment were counted as support that the drug didn’t interfere with fertility; differences in composition between Roundup Ready soy and natural soy were omitted from a published paper; antibody reactions by rats fed rbGH were ignored by the FDA; and deaths from rats fed the FlavrSavr tomato remain unexplained.”

Question by pdooma: Should the government be funding porn to prevent prostate cancer?
Studies show that ejaculation 3x a week help reduce prostate cancer by 15%. In fact, according to Australian studies, the more a man ejaculates between age 20 and 50, the lower his risk for prostate cancer will be.

Since we cannot assume every guy out there has a wife/girlfriend/husband/boyfriend willing to have sex 3x a week, nor can we assume that every guy has the funds to pay for his own porn in order to masturbate (we don’t want the poor to suffer needlessly), I propose that government should provide free or low cost porn in the quest to prevent prostate cancer. Heck, they pay for everything else.

Your thoughts?

I’m sure this will be reported, but since I used all medical terms, shouldn’t we take this as a serious discussion of cancer and not just of smutty sex?

Question by Missy2002: What should I put in a cancer prevention/awareness goody bag?
For my relay for life fundraiser I am making goody bags that will deal with cancer awareness and prevention. I am making approximately 100 of them and I will be selling them for donations at an event my team is hosting. I have approximately 1 month to put them together. I dont mind spending a little bit of money on them out of my pocket but i dint have much. I need ideas of what I can put it the bags that will make them worth the donation for the buyer, and be cost efficient and effective in bringing out awareness. So far this is my plan:
Paper bags(the kind with the rope handle), labeled with what the donation is for, and my team logo.
Contents:
*American Cancer Association pamphlet
*Relay for Life Pamphlet
*Bottled Water
*Sunscreen Single use wipes, attached to an informational fact sheet about skin cancer
*Condom – attached to an informational fact sheet about safe sex and cancer.
*Candy – just because =)
*Gift Cards good for a free cup of coffee from a local restaraunt
*Discounts special for the purchasers of these bags created by local businesses
*Custom pens and key chains with my teams logo on them
*Im trying to get a few small gift cards and small items to add to a few of the bags so that I can advertise that buying one gives them the chance to get a bag that has a higher value.
* Each bag will also come with ONE raffle ticket that the buyer can put in any of our raffle buckets that they choose, at the event where they purchase thier bag. (we will have several raffles going on that day)

The buyer will of course get to pick their own bag out of a bunch we will have on a table.

i am also putting together some kids bags that will be smaller but still be educational. These will contain:
*Sunscreen
*Crayons
*Candy
*Novelty toys
*Juice Box
*Stickers
I am trying to see if make a wish foundation will donate some stickers and pencils for me to throw in as well…if not i can spend the .50 cents on each bag to buy the pencils…its like a double cause!

Anyways…any ideas for these bags are greatly appreciate. Our team theme is baseball so baseball stuff works too. ..

Question by mahonelee: Do you think that girls should be forced to take the cervical cancer prevention shot?
I don’t think any young girl should be forced to take a shot that they don’t want to take. Especially when they are only nine years old and not promiscuous or who does anything to get any HPV. I’d love to hear any other opinions out there.

Seriously why not? It’s a vaccination just like the MMR or chicken pox. We give vaccinations for diseases that no one has seen for years. Why haven’t we seen these diseases for years?? Because we vaccinate. If you have a good reason for not wanting it then sure the 9 yr olds opinion should count but why not? Whats the harm?

Question by Daniel Marcos: How much faith should one place in an alkaline diet for cancer prevention?
My father-in-law was wrongfully diagnosed with cancer of the liver recently. The disturbing episode has had him on edge ever since. In hopes of developing a healthier lifestyle, he is thinking of adopting an alkaline diet. My wife and I would like to know more because we are not completely sold on the idea.

None at all.

Pass this excellent article on to him: ‘Acid/Alkaline Theory of Disease Is Nonsense by Gabe Mirkin, M.D.’ http://www.quackwatch.org/01QuackeryRelatedTopics/DSH/coral2.html

Nothing you eat or drink can change the acidity of anything in your body except your urine. The idea that high alkaline diets can prevent cancer, cure cancer or affect the progress of cancer in any way is rubbish
